IP-QoS: Scalable and Flexible Quality-of-Service with Differentiated Services

چکیده

In the last decade, the Internet community spent a lot of research efforts in investigating various approaches and mechanisms in order to provide better Quality of Service than the traditional best effort delivery. The Differentiated Services (DiffServ) architecture developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) seems to be the final conclusion in this long process. In contrast to previously proposed architectures, the DiffServ approach was designed with the goals of scalability and flexibility in mind. The main focus was put on avoiding the maintenance of per flow state information in core network routers. To achieve this, so-called behavior aggregates were defined merging all flows that should perceive the same service class into a simple aggregate, thus significantly decreasing state and management overhead within the network. This chapter gives an overview of the main concepts of the Differentiated Services architecture and shows how value-added services can be realized in a scalable and flexible way.

A Novel Fuzzy Logic Base Scheduling Mechanism for Service Differentiation in IP Networks

Quality of Service (QoS) refers to a set of rules or techniques that help the network administrators use the available network resources optimally to manage the effects of congestion and to treat the applications according to their needs. The differentiated services architecture (DiffServ) allows providing quality of service to users. The major DiffServ premise is that individual flows with sim...

Multicasting in differentiated service domains

Advances in the areas of QoS and IP multicasting have necessitated the need of integration of these two important features of Internet. Differentiated services (DiffServ) has been proposed as a scalable Solution for supporting QoS in the Internet. Coexistence of multicasting and DiffServ is promising since the DiffServ model can provide a scalable framework and may reduce the computational comp...

A Scalable Real-time Monitoring System for Supporting Traffic Engineering

Quality of service based value-added services in IP networks necessitate the use of traffic engineering. The latter relies typically on monitoring data for both offline, proactive and dynamic, reactive solutions. A monitoring system should be scalable in terms of network size, speed and number of customers subscribed to value-added services. This article investigates the requirements of scalabl...

Layer-4 Service Differentiation and Resource Isolation

While the Differentiated Services (DiffServ) infrastructure is scalable and robust in providing network Quality of Service (QoS), there are serious drawbacks with the services provided by DiffServ: (1) the services are coarse-grained and oneway only; (2) no service differentiation and resource isolation are provided to meta-data packets such as TCP SYN and ACK packets. Moreover, the coarse-grai...

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF,‏ meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....
